OUTREACH

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.  Matthew 25: 35-36

As a team we minister to different projects and schools where children and youth live or go to school. Each week go on 4 or 8 outreaches and minister to over 200 children.

We play games, make crafts, share Bible stories, praise and worship, perform skits, lead panel discussions, disciple, share and counsel in small groups on topics relevant to the particular age group. Topics range from character building and living a lifestyle of integrity, to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, to obeying authority figures.

Below are just a few of the projects we visit each week.

Projects - Kenya

Primary School in Kibera

EAC Kenya has partnered with a young primary school in Kibera for impoverished and needy children from the slum. After witnessing the tragic implications of the post-election violence on children, a woman decided to start a school to help children in the slum. She saw many children out of school, orphaned, and with no means of attaining an education. She began a primary school that has quickly grown to over 150 children who have no other means of attending school. Every Friday, EAC Kenya visits the school children, aged 4-13, and sings with them, plays games, does art projects and teaches Bible stories and moral lessons to the children. The EAC Kenya team is always blessed by the many smiles and warm reception the children give us every week when we see them.

Evangelism in Kibera

Once a week, EAC Kenya partners with other ministries around Kibera to bring the word of God and gospel of life to the many lost and hurting people of the slums. While one team travels around seeking to meet new people, praying for the hurting, and sharing the word of God with those who have never heard it or who have wandered away, the other team does follow up on new believers. Basic Bible study materials are distributed to all new believers and every week the young Christians learn about different basic foundations of the faith. Upon completing the course, the new believers are presented with their own Bible.

Along with evangelism, on Tuesdays all new believers are invited to a Bible study in Kibera where a group of young believers are mentored in the faith. They are in fellowship with one another and able to learn more deeply about their new faith every Tuesday morning.

Babies Home

Once a week, EAC Kenya visits a home for orphaned and abandoned babies in Nairobi. Here, around 50 babies are taken in by the home and taken care of while new families are sought for them. EAC Kenya brings in their arms to hold and feed the adorable babies as well as their energy in helping with washing clothes in the laundry room and any other ways we can serve the home.

Home for Street Boys

Nairobi has a tragic number of young children who are chased away from home, run away from home, or have no home and live on the streets. At one home, designed to take in young adolescent boys from the streets and rehabilitate them into normal life, EAC Kenya is able to visit each week and show the boys a little bit of love. Through games, songs, short teachings, small group discussions, cleaning projects, and relationships, we are able to try to help the boys in their rehabilitation process and try to encourage them in their personal lives.

Juvenile Home

For a full day every week, EAC Kenya visits a juvenile home outside of Nairobi to minister to the young boys during their internments. Around 100 or so adolescent boys stay at the home anywhere from one month to three years while they serve their time. During the mornings, EAC Kenya is able to provide basic Bible teaching, counseling, life coaching and moral guidance to the boys. In the afternoons, we give academic teachings in courses such as English, social studies, math, etc. During holidays from academic teaching, we bring arts and crafts, sports, drama and other ministries to reach out to the boys, develop and explore their talents, and give them encouragement during their time at the juvenile home.

Village Missions and VBS

During seasons when schools are closed for holidays, EAC Kenya changes from our usual ministry program to embrace a few other options for ministry. We have from one to five day long trips to nearby villages to minister to children’s homes, schools, and rural areas outside of Nairobi.

Inside of Nairobi during holidays, we will once or twice a year hold two to four day long VBS (Vacation Bible School) weeks with the children we work with at our usual projects (i.e. the juvenile boys, kids at the school in Kibera, street boys, etc). This provides a more in-depth opportunity for us to minister to the kids and build relationships with them as well as to come up with a more creative and longer theme complete with complementing skits, games, crafts, and prizes to give the kids an exciting opportunity for learning, growth, and a life-changing opportunity to hear about Christ.
